Websites for Wirral businesses

Wirral web design, built by a local business owner.

I run three businesses on the Wirral and I built every one of their websites myself. Now I build them for other local businesses who want a site that brings in customers.

Why Northern Sites exists

I've already paid for the mistakes, so you don't have to.

For 10 years I've run my own businesses in retail and leisure on the Wirral. Like most owners, I handed my marketing to the experts, and spent a lot of money finding out how little I got back.

  1. 10 years

    Running my own businesses

Retail and leisure on the Wirral, with all the pressure on cash, time and footfall that comes with it.

  2. The expensive bit

Paying agencies for SEO, ads and websites

Monthly SEO fees, ad budgets and agency websites that cost a fortune and rarely delivered what was promised.

  3. 6 months

    A digital marketing course

I learned how SEO, ads and websites actually work, and realised I could do it all myself: better, faster and far cheaper.

  4. Now

    Helping other small businesses

Northern Sites uses that knowledge to give local businesses a website that works, without the agency price tag or the wasted money.

Recent work

Recent sites for Wirral and North West businesses and communities, from a gluten-free bakery's Shopify shop and a 70-page surveyors' site to a town website and a 41-page local SEO site for a joiner.

Case studies

Real projects for local businesses and communities.

★★★★★
“Northern Sites designed and built the new website for One West Kirby. From the start Adam took the time to understand what we wanted to say, and shaped it into a site that looks fresh, works beautifully and is easy for residents and visitors to use. It brings together new interactive Town Maps, our what’s on guide and showcases everything West Kirby has to offer. Adam was a true collaborator, was incredibly responsive to changes, very fast and efficient and we would recommend him to anyone that wants a site with real personality, purpose and which achieves its objectives.”

How it works

Chat

We meet for a brew on the Wirral or a call. You tell me about the business and what the site needs to do.

Draft

You get a working homepage to click through within a week, not a slideshow of mock-ups.

Build

The rest of the pages, your photos and contact forms. Existing Google rankings are protected.

Launch

Go live, a walk-through so you can edit it yourself, and ongoing help when you need it.

Questions people ask

How much does a website cost on the Wirral?

With Northern Sites, a Starter website of up to 5 pages is £495, a Business website of up to 12 pages is £995, and a Local SEO website of 25 to 50 pages starts at £1,750. Charities, CICs and community groups get a 5-page site for £250. Hosting starts at £19 a month and includes a free domain. Northern Sites is not VAT registered, so there's no VAT on top.

Can I spread the cost?

Yes. Pay in full, or pay a 25% deposit to book your project with the rest due before launch. You can also spread the rest over 12 monthly payments.

How long does a new website take?

You get a working homepage to click through within a week. The rest of the site follows as soon as your photos and details are in. Sending them within 14 days keeps your launch on schedule.

Will my website show up on Google and ChatGPT?

Every site is built to be found: fast pages, proper titles and descriptions, and the structured data Google uses to understand your business. Pages are also written and structured so ChatGPT, Google's AI answers and other assistants can read them and recommend you. For the best chance in your area, the Local SEO website adds a page for each service and town you cover.

I already have a website. Will I lose my Google rankings?

No. When I rebuild a site I keep your existing page addresses, or redirect them properly, so the rankings you've built carry straight over. Northern Kites was rebuilt this way.

Do I have to pay for hosting?

Every new site is on at least the Hosting plan (£19 a month) for the first 12 months. That covers fast, secure hosting, SSL, a free .co.uk or .com domain (subject to availability) and fixes if anything breaks.

Can I update the website myself?

Yes. At launch you get a walk-through so you can make simple edits yourself. If you'd rather I did it, the Care plans include monthly updates, or one-off updates are £35 each.

Do you only work on the Wirral?

Most clients are on the Wirral, from Wallasey and New Brighton to West Kirby, Hoylake, Birkenhead and Heswall, and I'm happy to meet in person. I also build for businesses further afield, like Ash Wood Joinery in Runcorn.
